Three Layers. One Mat. Real Protection.
Most waterproof products do one thing reasonably well. The Lifesaver Original does three things, and the combination is what makes it worth keeping.
The printed waterproof PUL backing faces down toward your mattress, sofa, or floor. Nothing gets through it. The absorbent microfiber core in the middle pulls liquid in and holds it , this is where the capacity comes from, and why the mat handles a full overnight leak rather than just dabbing at the surface. The stay-dry charcoal top faces up and wicks moisture away from whatever it's touching, so the surface against your skin or your furniture stays dry even after the mat has been working.
The charcoal layer is soft, antibacterial, and hides stains naturally. The PUL backing is printed, so the mat looks like something you chose to have in your home, not something you had to find. At 28"×40" (71 x 101 cm), it covers the zone that matters without taking over the whole bed.
Machine-washable with regular laundry. Hang dry. Reuse it until it's earned back whatever you paid for it many times over, which won't take long.

One Mat. More Uses Than You'd Expect.
The Lifesaver Original started as a potty training mat. Customers had bigger plans.
Today people use it for overnight incontinence, draped over the sleep zone on a queen or king bed, quietly doing its job while the charcoal top keeps skin comfortable. For heavy period nights, when the mat means the difference between a 3am sheet change and just washing the mat in the morning. For postpartum recovery, when you need one less thing to think about and the mat takes "protecting the mattress" completely off the list. For night sweats, where the breathable charcoal wicks and the PUL base protects, no plastic feel, just dry sleep. For intimate moments, where the soft absorbent surface and waterproof back mean no awkward cleanup and no ruined sheets. For a senior parent who deserves protection that feels nothing like a medical product.
Caregivers love that it washes quickly and is ready for the next day. People managing their own care love that it looks like a throw and not a hospital supply. Kids love the prints. Everyone appreciates that it doesn't announce what it's doing.
Put the printed PUL side face-down on grass or wet bleachers, it wipes clean and makes a comfortable outdoor sitting surface. Take it in a hospital bag. Keep it on the sofa during recovery. Use it under a pet water bowl. The Lifesaver Original shows up in a lot of places no one planned for, and it handles all of them.

Reusable vs Disposable: The Honest Comparison
Let's be honest, disposable bed pads get the job done. But they also crinkle every time you move, stick when you sweat, and somehow fill the bin faster than you'd expect. The Lifesaver Original costs a little more upfront, and then nothing, for years.
The charcoal surface is soft and quiet against skin. No crinkle, no plastic feeling, no cold wet wake-up surprises; the top stays dry to the touch even after a full night of doing its job. It looks like a mat you chose to have in your home, not a medical supply. And when it needs a wash, it goes in with regular laundry and comes back ready for the next night.
One Lifesaver Original replaces hundreds of single-use pads. No weekly restock, no bin full of plastic, no compromising on comfort to get protection that actually works. Buy it once, use it for years.

A reusable, triple-layer washable mat that protects beds, sofas, floors, and more from leaks and accidents. Soft stay-dry charcoal top, absorbent microfiber core, waterproof PUL backing. 28×40" (71 × 101 cm). Machine washable and reusable indefinitely.
28"×40" (71 × 101 cm). About the size of a twin bed protection zone. Wide enough to cover a single-seat sofa cushion completely. Long enough to protect your full sleep zone on a twin bed, or one person's mid-section on a larger bed. Folds to approximately 14" × 20" for storage or travel, fits in a large tote or suitcase without issue.
The Lifesaver Original is made of three layers, each doing a specific job.
The top layer, the side that faces up and touches you, is a stay-dry charcoal fleece. Bamboo charcoal woven into polyester wicks moisture away from skin, hides stains, and has natural antibacterial properties. It stays soft and dry to the touch even after absorption.
Underneath that is an absorbent microfiber core that pulls liquid in quickly and holds it. This is the capacity layer, it's what stops moisture from spreading to the edges.
The base layer faces down toward your mattress, sofa, or floor. It's a waterproof PUL (polyurethane laminate) backing that prevents any moisture from passing through to the surface below. The printed pattern is on this side, which is why the design faces down on the Original, and the charcoal faces up.
The charcoal (dark grey, soft) side faces up, that's the absorbent, stay-dry side that touches you. The printed PUL faces down toward the mattress.
Absorbs up to 4–8 cups (34–68 oz / 1–2 L) to handle daily leaks, period care, and unexpected messes. Designed for consistent, everyday protection. For reference, most adults release about 1–2 cups during a typical overnight accident, so the Lifesaver Mat Original is designed to handle significantly more.
Yes. The stay-dry top keeps skin comfortable through the night; the waterproof PUL base fully protects the mattress.
Yes. The charcoal top layer is soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking; it feels like fabric, not plastic. Most people sleeping on it don't notice it's there.
No. The PUL blocks moisture but is breathable. The charcoal top actively wicks sweat. Many customers use it specifically for night sweats management.
It can shift on smooth surfaces. Tuck the top edge under your pillow to keep it in place. Use cotton sheets, they grip better than silk or satin.
Castile and coconut-based soaps contain plant oils that coat the microfiber fibers. This causes the mat to repel liquid instead of absorbing it. Use only standard commercial detergents (like Tide Original) that rinse completely clean.
Water-based products are fine on both sides. Oil-based products won't ruin the mat but can reduce absorbency in the contact area if left untreated. Spot-treat with dish soap immediately if oil reaches the charcoal side, then wash as normal. The PUL side is fully wipeable.
Yes. PUL side face-down on grass, mud, or wet surfaces. It wipes and shakes clean. Charcoal side faces up as a comfortable, dry sitting surface.
With proper care, no bleach, no fabric softener, no hot wash, hang dry when possible, years. Many customers report using mats from nearly a decade ago. The waterproof layer can be refreshed if leaking by tumble-drying on medium heat for 20 minutes once.
Size. The Original is 28"×40"; a versatile everyday size for twin beds, single sofas, travel, and general use. The XL is 57"×40", nearly twice the size, designed for queen beds and heavier overnight incontinence coverage. Same three-layer construction on both.
Both offer the same waterproof protection and absorbency; the difference comes down to which side is designed to face up and how it feels.
The Lifesaver Mat has a stay-dry charcoal side on top, which is absorbent, moisture-wicking, and helps hide stains, ideal for everyday use and a more discreet look.
The Lifesaver Lush Mat flips the experience: the printed minky side faces up and is absorbent, giving it a softer, cozier, more blanket-like feel, while still providing the same waterproof protection underneath.
Choose the Lifesaver Mat for a stay-dry, low-profile feel, or the Lush for extra softness and a more decorative look.
The type of mess determines how to wash it. Here is a simple breakdown:
For lightly soiled mats (new items, drool, food spills, grass, dirt, and similar everyday messes), no pre-rinse is needed. Just wipe away any solid matter and toss it in the wash.
Select a heavy-duty cycle in warm water (max. 140F / 60C)
Use a good detergent (we recommend Tide Original)
Hang to dry when possible, or tumble dry on low and remove promptly
For heavily soiled mats (urine, feces, blood, vomit), a pre-rinse before the main wash is important to prevent odor and staining. Do not let the mat sit soiled for more than 3 days.
Wipe away any solid matter and rinse promptly after use
Run a pre-rinse or quick/speed wash cycle in warm water with a small amount of detergent (use cold water for blood)
Follow with a heavy-duty wash cycle in warm water with a full amount of detergent
Hang to dry when possible, or tumble dry on low and remove promptly
For all washes: Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, and castile or coconut-based soaps, as these reduce absorbency over time.
For oil or cream-based stains: Pretreat with a small drop of blue Dawn dish soap, hand wash, and rinse thoroughly before putting it in the machine.
Drying tip:
If the mat feels unusually heavy after washing, the absorbent side may have been facing inward during the spin cycle. Place it back in the machine with the absorbent side (the charcoal side) facing outward toward the drum and run a spin-only or drain-and-spin cycle to remove the extra water before drying.
