Our Process
We started as a cloth diaper company run by two aerospace engineers who thought products for life's messiest moments deserved better design. Thirteen years later, we still think that. Here's how we actually operate.
Our Values
We don't shy away from the fact that we are a for-profit business. But that doesn't mean we do business like everyone else. For us, the focus is always on interacting with our community of customers in a caring, compassionate, and authentic way. We also take pride in using our platform to acknowledge, normalize, and celebrate some of the messier parts of life. The fact that we can do all of this and still be profitable proves it's possible. That's the whole point.
We Learn Out Loud. No one on the Lil Helper team would claim we're a perfect bunch. We've made our fair share of mistakes and grown through some real growing pains. But the Lil Helper brand is built on vulnerability, accountability, resilience, and perseverance. When life gives us lemons, we make lemonade. And when we can't, we learn, adjust, and do better next time.
Proud of our products. Proud of our team. Proud of our community and the work that we do. All too often we make ourselves small or downplay our good work so as not to seem boastful. At Lil Helper, we normalize putting our best ideas out there and celebrating the big and small wins.
Our Purpose
Life is hard. Most of us already know that. At Lil Helper, our job is to help you find a moment of joy in the middle of the mess. From products that handle a lot of blood, sweat, and other things, to groan-worthy dad jokes on the packaging, every decision we make comes back to one question: does this make someone's day a little better? Because life will always be messy. It's too short not to smile anyway.
Messes may be unavoidable, but they don't have to be miserable. The "Designed by Rocket Scientists" tag on our products is our way of promising that when you come to us with a problem, you get a solution that has been genuinely thought through, not just slapped together. Every product starts with a real problem and gets designed around actually solving it.
What Sets Us Apart
If you aren't being kind and having fun every day, you're doing it wrong. Lil Helper was founded by people looking for better solutions to real, everyday problems. We empathize with our customers because our first customers were us. And even though our product line has expanded and our community has grown, we still look for ways to meet our customers where they are and find the human in the messy parts of life. From multi-functional products that grow with your needs to easter eggs hidden in our prints, we always look for ways to put the fun in functional.
We make products for everyone who needs them. When we launched HyPs, our reusable menstrual pads, we made them for all people who menstruate. Our incontinence line was built for adults of all ages and bodies. Our caregiver products were designed with dignity at the center. Whoever you are and whatever life is handing you right now, there is a place for you at our table.
We don't just sell products. We build systems. Whether you are switching to cloth diapers or making the move to reusable menstrual products, success depends on having the right combination of things working together. We encourage customers to only buy what they need, but we offer the tools and guidance to build a system that actually fits your life.
Manufacturing - How we make?
When we started Lil Helper, we wanted to manufacture everything locally in Canada. We also didn't know anything about textiles or manufacturing. The cost of producing items here, especially to our quality standards, was restrictive and would have made our products inaccessible to the people we wanted to serve. Where we can make products locally and offer them at reasonable prices, we do. Where we can't, we find the best possible alternative, and we never cut corners to get there.
We never wanted to compete on price. Our products are not cheap and they were never meant to be. They are meant to be worth it.
The first thing that comes to mind for many western consumers when they hear "overseas manufacturing" is sweatshops. We understand that. But good people who do good work exist everywhere. We have personally visited every floor where our products are made and continue to do so regularly. We don't choose factories where we cannot speak to the owners directly. Accountability starts from the top, and that is non-negotiable for us.
Some of our workshops have been producing products for us for more than ten years. Their kids call Mo "Shūshu Mo" — Uncle Mo. We visit each other's homes. We do things for each other that you only expect from family, not business associates. These workshops have grown with us over the years. They provide meals for workers, on-site childcare, and a culture of genuine care. These are good people who treat their employees well, and we are proud to work with them.
We always wanted to offer our products at a reasonable cost. Not "affordable," because affordable means something different to everyone. We never wanted to be the cheapest option. We wanted to be the most worthwhile one. The investment you make in a Lil Helper product is one you should be able to feel good about for years.
Product - What do we make?
None of the products we make are perfect. Perfection cannot be improved upon. Every product we make is continuously evolving based on your feedback. Whatever you invest in now helps us make it better for the next person who needs it.
Everything we make is CPSIA tested, even when certification is not required. All products are OEKO-TEX certified. No PFAS, no BPA, no phthalates, no heavy metals. Made with body-safe materials that are gentle on sensitive skin, nothing we would not feel good using ourselves. Because that should be the bare minimum.
Every product we make exists because someone had a problem worth solving. If a product is not addressing a genuine need, we do not make it. We have gone astray a couple of times, but we always find our way back to that principle.
Every product we make has to justify the money you spend on it. That means better materials, more thoughtful construction, and added functionality that actually gets used. People are still using things we made over a decade ago. Others have passed products on or resold them and recouped more than half of what they paid. That is not an accident.
We support you and anyone who has a Lil Helper product in hand, regardless of when you bought it or where you bought it from. We listen and talk to you long after the warranty is gone. We treat you exactly the way we would want to be treated.
People - Who do we work with?
We like to hire from within our active customer base. The person serving you has more than likely been exactly where you are. They have used the products, asked the same questions, and figured out the same routines. That is not an accident. It is how we make sure the experience of being helped at Lil Helper actually feels like being helped.
Our team is spread across Canada, the US, India, Pakistan, Mexico, Philippines, and China. Different time zones, different backgrounds, same mission.
Our team is all around. I am at the warehouse, which is my home, just outside of Toronto in Markham, ON. I work on the second floor and the business is run from the basement by 3 fantastic women. The rest of the team is spread across Canada, US, India, Pakistan, Philippines and China.
None of us are conventionally qualified to do what we do. Mo is an aerospace engineer whose biggest claim to fame is helping make a better poop catcher. We are all here because we genuinely want to be, and we all see Lil Helper as something that is constantly changing, evolving, and getting better. We teach each other. We push each other. That is how we move forward.
Culture: Why We Work
We are a business. We have inventory, bills, and mouths to feed. We have to turn a profit, or at least try to, so we can stay around to serve our people.
People come before profit. Always. We will do what is in your best interest. We will not force or oversell. We will treat you like an adult. We will reciprocate the kindness you have shown us. We are good business people, but more than that, we are good people.
We welcome everyone who wants to be part of what we are building. People who menstruate, people managing incontinence, caregivers, parents, grandparents, adults with medical needs, people who just want a really good towel. Everyone. We like pets too.
We are constantly changing and hopefully getting better. Tell us when we do something dumb and we will fix it. Tell us when we do something right so we know to keep doing it.
We try to be everywhere. Email, phone, social media. If you have a question, a complaint, a compliment, or just want to say hello, reach out. We mean it.

All of us, including Mo, Sophia, and Zara, have a tremendous appreciation for being able to do what we do. We hope to keep doing it for as long as we are grateful for the opportunity. We have been this way since 2011. Thank you, beautiful human.
