Materials of the product

CLOTH DIAPERS

  1. Pre-Wash: Run a short cycle in warm water using the recommended detergent (we suggest Tide Original Powder).

  2. Main Wash: Use the Heavy Duty (longest) cycle with warm/cold water and the correct amount of detergent.

  3. Drying: Line dry whenever possible to protect the waterproof fabric of the diaper covers.

TANK INSERTS

  1. Pre-Wash: Run a pre-wash or pre-rinse cycle with Line 1 of detergent. This removes most of the urine.

  2. Main Wash: Use the Heavy Duty (longest) cycle on warm (max. 140°F/60°C) with the recommended amount of detergent. Ensure you use enough detergent for a thorough clean.

  3. Drying: Line dry whenever possible, or tumble dry on medium heat.

Important Notes

  • Use a reputable, commercially available detergent, such as Tide Original.

  • Do not use laundry soaps like castile or coconut-based soaps.

  • Avoid detergents with fabric softeners and do not use dryer sheets. These can compromise the diapers’ performance.

The question we get asked most often...How many diapers do I need?

We’ve done the math! Babies average 10 diaper changes daily—newborns need more, older babies fewer. Don’t forget to factor in laundry! If daily laundry isn’t your thing, we recommend getting at least 2 packs—preferably 3. This lets you wash every other day while still having enough diapers to get through your routine. For a 3-day wash schedule, we suggest 4 day packs, so you’ll always have backups on hand!

Newbie Guide

Hear ye, hear ye!! Lil Helper diapers DO NOT NEED TO BE PREPPED! Yes, you heard right, waterproof diapers do NOT need to be prepped! Every diaper and insert comes to you ready to be used with all the absorption you will ever need, just waiting to wick away your baby’s wetness! (Cue happy diaper dance…) We do recommend giving the new diapers a quick wash in the laundry at least once in warm or cold water to get rid of any dust that may have accumulated from the warehouse or shipping. You will only need to use ½ the recommended amount of detergent for this short cycle as the diapers are already clean. You are just freeing them of dust.
You know when you buy your child that super sought-after toy and then get it home, only to see the fine print that all the amazing accessories on the box aren’t actually included…. Meaning more money and lots of tears (from the kids and maybe even you!). We want to make your life as easy as possible, which is why all our reusable diapers come with a cover AND inserts. So, when you purchase a Lil Helper cloth diaper you get a diaper cover and a tank insert set. Meaning, you get the whole baby diaper so it’s ready to use without any extra purchases. How's that for easy and convenient?
Like peanut butter and jam, bacon and eggs, or moms and coffee, some of the best things come in twos. We designed our cloth diaper with two inserts to give you more flexibility in customizing absorption. You would use the small liner by itself when the baby is under 3-4 months. When the baby grows older, then you can use the large liner in tandem with the small one. This gives you customizable absorbency as your baby grows.
Unsnapping your diapers and inserts properly will extend their lifespan (and save money for you) and keep the snaps in good shape. Learn all about how a one-size diaper fits on our blog.
I can almost categorically tell you that your child will not need any diaper creams whatsoever when using our diapers. But even if you were to use baby diaper creams, here is a good reason why you shouldn't be using any creams. The same impermeable layer of waterproof protection that the diaper rash cream forms on your child's bum is also transferred on the diaper making it water-resistant. Moisture won't be absorbed readily if you use rash creams on any reusable diaper, not only Lil Helper cloth diapers. If the diaper cannot absorb pee or poo, it will leak. We suggest avoiding all creams… yes, even coconut oil. The icing on the cake is that ultimately with cloth there is less need for the creams anyway. We change more often, reducing wetness—and you avoid any of the harmful chemicals in disposables that may also cause irritation on a newborn’s tushie.

Try just one first, don't go all-in

We really regret going all-in and getting 3 days worth of these diapers and inserts. Our baby is 5 weeks old. According to the instructions, we are using just the small insert, and her output has been saturating the insert in under 2.5 hours, leaking into the PUL and soaking her back and/or leg at least once a day since she was about 3.5 weeks old. The diaper is well-fitted and the inserts pass the absorbency test, but one insert is obviously not enough and we cannot fit both inserts yet. We've already stopped using these at nighttime.

Hopefully these diapers will work better with two inserts, which hopefully we'll be able to fit once our baby is 3 months old. Otherwise, what a waste of hundreds of dollars... Lesson learned!

Edit: increased from 2 to 4 stars -- customer service reached out to me shortly after I had posted my original 2-star review to help troubleshoot. Our baby has now been using the diapers with the full Tank insert (both small and large ones) for the past 2 weeks (since 6 weeks old) with great success! The customer service representative was very helpful in checking the fit for us, and our baby is bigger now so it's easier to fit both inserts. We've had no more leaks! Fingers crossed that we'll stay leak-free!

Hey Jaye! Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on our Tank Cloth Diaper and for letting us troubleshoot your fit and leaks with you. We are delighted after emailing with you that you are now leak free - don't hesitate to reach out again if you need any more help! Have a wonderful day!! - Amanda @ Lil Helper

Fantastic but small for toddlers

Highly recommended for babies and smaller toddlers. Definitely on the short side for average height or tall toddlers.

Our twin 18 month olds have had pretty constant diaper rash and yeast, so we wanted to try a switch from disposable to cloth. So far it's helped quite a bit. These diapers held a lot, with only a minor leak overnight due to fit, and wash very well. They are comfortable on the baby, and no more rash!

With my older kids we had tried some all-in-two cloth diapers and always had to wash the covers every time, the inserts on these hold enough we can go a change or two without needing to also wash the covers.

Unfortunately, we aren't going to get to use them long. My girls are nearly 18 months old, about 26 lbs, wearing 18 months-2T clothing, and between size 4 and 5 in disposable diapers. They have quite a bit of width left to go in these diapers but the rise is so low it's nearly too short already. When they get taller there's no way they will continue to fit. We've tried removing the smaller insert, but didn't gain any real improvement in rise and the decrease in absorption wasn't worth it.

I'm considering trying a pair of the training pants with the tank inserts to see if that would work.

Hi MaryAnne! We appreciate your time and your review of our Tank Cloth Diapers. It is wonderful to read that your twins' constant diaper rash was alleviated when using our Tank Cloth Diapers and that your kiddos find them to be comfortable. One quick tip on the fit for some kiddos: you can unsnap the inserts after your child is in the diaper to create more wiggle room. Our Delight team is also always here to help with fit and absorbency questions, we would love to help your girls to get a better fit so they can use these right up to potty training time! We can be reached at delight@lilhelper.ca. Warmly, Amanda @ Lil Helper

Best Cloth Diapers

I've tried so many cloth diapers. Unfortunately, most of them leaked with my daughter, who has relatively thin legs for her height. If they didn't leak, they had multiple parts that were somewhat difficult to put together for those who watch her. What is perfect about these is that they are easy to clean, put together, put on the baby, and they fit perfectly. No leaking! Not one time has she had a blowout with this diaper. Moreover, this site is wonderful because it allows you to try a diaper at a reduced rate if you're a new customer! It was an awesome deal. I came back recently during the Black Friday sale and bought six more. Next, I plan to try some of the menstrual products. Thank you for making reliable, sustainable, absorbent products!

Hey Sarah! Your review is truly appreciated- thank you for taking the time to write this for us! We are ecstatic that our Tank Cloth Diapers are able to do what the other brands of cloth diapers you tried previously could not. The Tank Cloth Diapers were created with ease in mind; from washing to wearing, we want our products to be as helpful as possible! Thank you big time for being such a loyal customer. Keep your eye on our FB Group 'Lil Helper Lounge' for some sneak peeks coming soon about our latest HyPs reusable menstrual product line! They will definitely be worth trying out. Best Cloth Diaper

I absolutely love these cloth diapers! I hardly ever write reviews but I have been so blown away by this company that I had to tell everyone how amazing they are! I have been cloth diapering my son for about four months now and he is about 17 months old now. I was worried about diapers not fitting since I started so late in the game for cloth diapers but it is the best switch I could have made! The tank diapers fit him so well and even though he is already 24lbs there is still room for him to grow before we start potty training. I have used other cheaper cloth diapers when I started this journey but lil helper diapers were totally worth the investment! They absorb so much more than the cheaper diapers and don't get stained after blowouts which is amazing. My husband and I were intimidated at first by the cleaning process, but it has turned out to be a breeze. We just wash off any solids into the toilet then a quick rinse in the sink then to a dry bag until wash day. The tank diapers have held up so well in the wash with no changes in absorbency compared to our cheaper diapers that have had increased leaks with increased wash cycles due to the hard water in our location. These diapers are such amazing quality that I know if we ever have a second child that these diapers will last even for them and I will be sad when our diaper journey is over cause these diapers are so cute. I cannot express how amazing the customer service is and am so glad I found this company as every product is spectacular!
